Woohoo! In only 14 days, we managed to surpass our funding goal by a healthy amount, ensuring that Arcana Resurgence will become a reality!
For now, enjoy a few fun facts!
1.) Arcana Resurgence's lore was originally planned for a book series.
Although Arcana Resurgence as a game has been in development for over a year now, the true origin dates back to 2014-2015, when I originally started writing the outline for a series of Fantasy light novels that were dubbed "Arcana."
Regrettably, I never got around to sending anything to a publisher, and the series was shelved after I graduated. Flash forward to late 2019, and I begin going back into game design. Although I hadn't actively written anything for Arcana in 2 years at this point, it was still one of my favorite creative projects, and it only made sense to use the lore and world building I had already come up with.
When it came to picking a name for the game, I went with the title I originally intended for the first book I had written for the series, ArcanaResurgence.
Since a few people have DM'ed me on here and Discord expressing interest in reading more about the lore, I'm currently going through and editing the book. The plan is to upload the book by chapters onto the game's website as a sort of weekly/bi-weekly blog. So be sure to keep an eye out for when we start releasing that :D
Completed drafts of the first two books in the series, Arcana Resurgence and Arcana Goetia, were finished in 2016 and 2017 respectively. The current plan is to focus the second set for the game on the plot of Arcana Goetia.
2.) 2 Illustrations, 6 mages.
I thought this was really clever, but the primary cycle of mage cards are taken from 2 illustrations.
Originally, there were only going to be 2 preconstructed decks for Arcana Resurgence, each using 3 elements and focusing on the main cast of mages. When I commissioned the artwork for this cycle of mages from Sorina, I wanted the artwork for the mages in each deck to look like they were in the same area. Eventually this evolved into doing 2 panorama illustrations, with each panorama featuring the mages from that deck.
The artwork for Ara, Jackie, and Freya
The artwork for Eli, Nolan, and Rion
3.) Style evolution
Over the course of its development, Arcana Resurgence has gone through a few different art styles.
Early in development, the game had a slightly more cartoonish and vibrant appearance, as can be seen on the left. As development went on and more artists were brought on board, the style began gradually shifting towards a semi-realistic look.
One of the biggest issues with this art style that we encountered was that, as more cards were illustrated, it became increasingly hard to illustrate more serious and gloomy pieces. While the original story had its share of surreal and comedic moments, it was incredibly difficult to illustrate cards depicting creatures and events that were intended to be creepy/scary.
Although the style has been retired, it provided what continues to be my favorite interpretation of the light mage, Nolan.
"Scatterbrained and light hearted exorcist" was the first line of the prompt for this piece, I believe.
That's it for me, though! Once again, thanks to everyone who has backed so far, I'm able to bring this game to a wider audience, and I could not be more appreciative of that!
Your questions answered!

Recently I invited backers and interested individuals to ask me questions about Arcana Resurgence. Originally I answered these questions on the Arcana Resurgence Discord and via Private Messages, so I figured it would be a great idea to post them as an official update!
Question 1: Will we be able to tell Kickstarter Edition cards/booster boxes from Retail Edition cards?
Answer: Yes, absolutely! All cards from the Kickstarter print run will have a unique expansion code that sets them apart from the retail release.
All cards from the Kickstarter print run will use the set code KSE, while all cards from the retail print run will use the set code BASE
Additionally, all booster packs and booster boxes purchased from the Kickstarter campaign will proudly display "Kickstarter Alpha Edition". Retail booster packaging, on the other hand, will have the text "Base Set" instead. To further prevent confusion, the retail booster packs and booster boxes will use different artwork from the Kickstarter Edition's packaging.
Question 2: How will we determine the rarity of a card?
Answer: Each card will have the rarity and collector number on the bottom right-hand corner. In the above examples with Madremonte seed, the card has a collector ID of 043-U. This tells you that the card is an Uncommon, and is the 43rd card in the set.
Question 3: Will the Kickstarter Edition be limited to those who backed the project?
Answer: We have no intentions of reprinting the Kickstarter Edition after this campaign. Any subsequent print runs will be of the Base Set retail edition.
Question 4: What other differences will there be between the Kickstarter and Retail Editions?
Answer: Although the booster packs of both sets will have a chance of containing foil cards, the type of foiling used will be different between the two sets.
Note that the foil mages in the Master of the Arcane tier will use different frames compared to the foil mages found in booster packs. These foils will, however, be sent out to any backer who pledges $100 or more, regardless of their tier.
Once again, thank you all so much for your support! If you have any more questions, feel free to leave a comment or shoot me a message, and I can see about posting another one of these Q&A sessions! Until then, enjoy some artwork!

Arcana's Development Timeline

Hey all! Once again, thank you all so much for your support! Thanks to everyone who pledged, Arcana Resurgence will become a reality! Since we're now 1 week into our campaign going live, I figured I'd touch base with regards to our development timeline.
October 2021 — Crowdfunding and community outreach!
The first half of October will be primarily focused on running our Kickstarter and building a relationship with our growing community. In case you haven't joined yet, I strongly suggest hopping into our discord server, where I've been answering questions about Arcana's development and showcasing artwork.
I think one of the most important things in building a game is having an open line of communication with your playerbase, as well as letting your community know that as a developer you are able and willing to listen to and hold a discussion with them.
Late October-December 2021 — Finalizing assets and Pledge Manager.
Once the campaign's done, all focus is going to be put on finalizing the game assets based on any feedback we've received, as well as completing any remaining card illustrations.
During this stage, all backers will gain access to the post-campaign Pledge Manager, where they will be able to pay for shipping and purchase additional booster boxes or preconstructed decks.
By the end of December, all game assets will be sent off to our manufacturers.
January-February 2022 — Printing, Quality Control, and Retailer pre-orders.
During this period, the Booster Boxes, Preconstructed Decks, Kickstarter Promos, and Playmats will be printed and shipped to us. This process will take between 6-8 weeks for all four items. During this time, I'll be working with the manufacturers to ensure that the quality of all items is up to standard.
Once everything has been received, I'll be uploading a video showcasing the final products, and we'll be able to move into the final stage: Fulfillment.
Please note that there may be delays during this stage depending on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although more and more of the United States is getting vaccinated, we are far from out of the woods. If there's any sign of things being delayed, we will be updating all of you on Kickstarter and in our Discord, as well as by email.
Late February-March 2022 — From Us to You, with Love.
From the second the games arrive until the last package is scanned in at the Post Office, all attention is going to be focused on fulfilling backer rewards. Depending on the final amount of backers, this process will take between 2-3 weeks, but US backers should start receiving their copies of Arcana Resurgence by mid-March.
And that about does it! As always, if you ever have questions about the game or our development timeline, feel free to contact me here, on discord, or at [email protected]! And be sure to check in again tomorrow, where I'll be showcasing some art and answering questions about Arcana Resurgence!
